Growing up, I struggled to find my voice. As the middle daughter of three girls and part of a very enmeshed family, it was often difficult to find my place, my identity, my way. This struggle manifested in some not-so-healthy ways – being hard on myself, addiction, constant apologizing for myself – which I’ve thankfully learned to overcome and outgrow. I feel that this is the case for so many people, and especially for so many women. A few years ago, something happened: in losing myself to something bigger than me, I found myself.

Several years ago, I started working with animals. I’ve always loved animals, but working with them and for them significantly changed my life. I also love performing; expressing myself creatively is as much a medicine as a joy for me. So recently, I was inspired to create a one-woman play – “I’m Sorry” – as a way to reconcile these two passions and tell a story that would hopefully make people laugh and make them think.  In the process of writing my tale, I realized that, in helping animals, I had found my own voice. My show is about how I went from being a people-pleasing apologist to an animal-loving activist and how in rescuing animals, I got rescued.

“I’m Sorry” is a funny and poignant hour-long piece that I wrote and perform. I play sixteen different characters and I share it all! I hope you will all come see it! It’s playing at The Lounge Theatre in Hollywood (6201 Santa Monica Blvd.) and it runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm from now through May 22nd. Half-priced tickets are available at www.plays411.com/sorry and you can learn more about the show at www.imsorrytheshow.com

Many thanks,

Katya
