Think Reality TV is a guilty pleasure? Think again! Our Clinical Director, Jessica LeRoy has been interviewed by Variety magazine about the lessons the show Wife Swap can teach us about interacting more effectively with our families. Jessica reasoned that Wife Swap provides a good model for communication through the presentation of families discussing their issues directly. Providing kids with an emotional vocabulary that they can use to express themselves is crucial. So maybe Reality TV isn’t as trashy as we thought. We have always thought The Hills is a fascinating case study on the psychology of “group think”, but not quite as hopeful about Jersey Shore. Is Project Runway’s Tim Gunn something of a psychological guru? Does Top Model’s Tyra banks have control issues? Are there other reality shows that can teach us something? Let us know what you think!
