I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who works with a wide range of clients. Throughout my professional life, I’ve focused on helping people who have identity-related issues, including those of gender, sexual orientation, class, and new parenthood. More recently, I’ve also dealt with clients who have a history of traumatic or transitional experiences. I work with both individuals and couples, and in doing so, I tend to use a depth-oriented model of treatment, meaning I work with clients to address the underlying issues causing their symptoms with the goal of creating long-term change and relief. Moreover, I have in-depth training in relational therapy, as well as in trauma and post-traumatic symptoms. I have worked extensively in GLBTQ communities and with non-traditional couples and families.

In 2002, I earned my graduate degree from New College of California in San Francisco, where I was exposed to a politically and clinically progressive curriculum, one which emphasized critical social theory in conjunction with psychodynamic theory and clinical training. After New College, I attended a two-year training program at Women’s Therapy Center (WTC) in the San Francisco Bay Area. There I received in-depth supervision by feminist-oriented therapists while studying contemporary psychodynamic and relational theories. My work at Women’s Therapy Center generated an ongoing desire to work with women both as clients and colleagues, as my clinical work flourished in this stimulating and supportive group of women.

After Women’s Therapy Center I moved to Houston, Texas, which is where I spent my childhood. There I completed a training program at the Houston-Galveston Trauma Institute where I received supervision on clients who suffered from severe, chronic trauma and dissociative symptoms. At the Trauma Institute, I also participated in the Family Matters Program, helping veterans and their families navigate the impact of war trauma. In Houston, I developed and maintained a private practice for several years, which I enjoyed immensely. I also worked in a group home setting for children and adolescents who were in the custody of U.S. Immigration, dealing as they were with the legal process of seeking legal residency. Although I loved my work in Houston, I longed to once again be surrounded by politically progressive therapists.

After returning to California, this time to the Los Angeles area, I was excited to find a group of progressive clinicians at the Center for the Psychology of Women. Joining the Center is the next step for me in continuing to develop as a therapist in a supportive and progressive space, while serving the psychological needs of a diverse population of women.
